Dear 1st Grade Parents.
Welcome spring!! With baseball, softball, and lacrosse seasons in full swing and the weather being beautiful spring is definitely here for now! Hopefully the weather minus the wind will hold out for spring break!
Math
This past week students spent time exploring fractions. So far students have worked on looking at fractions as a whole broken into equal parts. Our focus has been on the fractions ½, ⅓, and ¼.
Our work in fractions will continue this week with an assessment on Wednesday. Here's this week's homework.

Quarter 2-Week 2
Happy Spring!!!
I hope everyone had a great weekend. The weather was beautiful!!! Let's hope it stays this nice for spring break coming up real soon!
Last week first graders were busy...
- working on their narrative "small moment" stories.
- writing Limericks and Haiku poems
- writing great stories about St. Patrick's day
- reading poems
This week we will be...
- Finishing up our poetry books
- choosing our favorite poem to type
- write the endings to our small moments and use the Froggy books to look at text features to make our stories better.
- Our spelling pattern this week will be eat words.
Thank you for coming to Parent-Teacher conferences. It was great getting to visit with everyone and discuss your wonderful children. I am amazed at all the progress everyone has made this year!!!

Quarter 4 -- Week1
Hello first grade families,
I can't believe how fast the year is doing by. Can you believe we only have 9 weeks of first grade??? There is still a lot of learning we have to get in before our wonderful firsties become 2nd graders, so we will continue to work hard.

Parent Teacher Conferences are this Friday, March 18, 2016! Remember if you can not make the time you scheduled please change it on the Sign-up Genius or email me to let me know. I look forward to meeting with everyone!

- We wrote some wonderful poems, including I wish poems, ing poems using adjective and I like poems.
- We began our narrative writing unit and zeroed in on a small moment in our lives that we want to write about.
- We read some fun poetry books including "Where the Sidewalk Ends".
- We watched the 2nd grades presentation on animals and compared them to our work on animals.
- Mrs. Rowlett worked on all the 3rd quarter assessments.
Here is a look at this week...
- Our spelling pattern will be ee words (free, tree, three etc.)
- We will create more wonderful poetry including Important poems and Hiaku's.
- We will continue our work on our narrative stories by drawing the beginning and end and writing about each part of our small moment.

March 14th-17th
I simply can’t believe that it is March 14th! We start 4th Quarter today along with learning about fractions! Fractions are so much fun and there are a ton of activities/projects to do too! The first graders will partition circles and rectangles from a “whole” into (two) ½ and( four) ¼ equal parts. We will also discuss (thirds) ⅓.
Your 1st grader will also be able to tell the differences between shapes that are divided in equal pieces.

Quarter 3 Week 10
Happy Monday!!!
This is the last week of 3rd Quarter. Thursday, March 10th, will be the last day of the quarter. Wow! The time has been flying by!

This week in first grade we...
- created acrostic poems using our names
- drew self portraits
- created a color poem
- read some great Dr. Seuss book including the Big Brag, Yertle the Turtle, Gertrude McFuzz, and Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose. All of these great Dr. Seuss book have a message. We discussed the message and how we can apply it to our lives.
- On the hundredth day of school we wrote about how we are 100 Days smarter at Oasis with all the great things we learned this year.
This week we will...
- Continue assessments for report cards.
- Continue our poetry unit.
- Begin to write personal narratives by choosing a small moment to write about.
- Our spelling pattern this week is ain words (rain, pain, drain etc.)

Week 28
Hello and Happy Monday! The first graders will continue to work on Branch Addition and Subtraction. Focusing on addition on Monday and Tuesday, then subtraction Wednesday and Thursday. We will also be completing some 3rd quarter assessments. 3rd Quarter ends this Thursday, March 10th! We cannot believe how fast the time has gone by! These kiddos have made some much progress since last August!
Here are some subtraction examples for Wednesday and Thursday’s Homework.
