Week 3 Information and Slide Show

We have had a great week this past week.  The first graders worked really hard building Stamina in read to self,  and writing.   We did such a great job that we were able to introduce read with someone. The students love reading with a partner and sharing all kinds of great books.  In writing we continued learning all about our first grade friends and have continued to interview and write sentences interactively and in our friend journals about our classmates.  We also learned about 5 star sentences (sentences with capitals, punctuation, spaces, good spelling, and do they make sense).  We are using 5 star sentences to remind us how to write great sentences during or Daily 5 writing block.  Our word-study focus this week was looking at the middle vowel sounds a and o.  We sorted pictures and wrote words that have these middle vowel sounds.  The TRIBES agreements that we focused on was Attentive listening and Mutual respect.  We read stories about listening and also on what it takes to show mutual respect.

This week we will continue to work on the components of Daily 5.  We will learn about listen to reading and will get to use the chrome books explore some different read aloud book sites.  Later in the week I will give you some great book sites that your child may use at home.  We will continue to interview our friends and write 5 star sentences about them as a class and in our friend journals. We will continue to explore Mutual Respect and begin to look at No Put-downs.

We will be starting our Guided Reading groups this week.  Your child will be bringing home a book to read in their binder Monday or Tuesday.  Please read this book as part of your 20 minutes of reading.  We will also be starting sight words. These will be in your child's binder in a clear page protector, on Tuesday.  Please practice these words nightly we will have sight word assessments every Thursday. Thank you for all you do!!!
