Last week the class...
- learned about different community types (urban, rural, suburban). The first graders drew a picture of one of the community types and wrote clues about that community type.
- read a story "Me on the Map" and started to make our own little flip books about where we go to school and who is in charge.
- We drew Oasis Academy and wrote about who is in charge
- learned all about nouns by watching a short video with a very catchy tune. We will be learning more about nouns in the week to follow.
This week we will ...
- begin adding nouns to our Noun Town that will include common, proper and possessive nouns.
- add to our Me On The Map books. We will learn about our town, state and country and who is in charge of each of these wonderful places.
- Our spelling pattern this week will be ump words (bump, dump, lump, clump etc.
Math News
Our first grade class has been working on graphing. We have been very busy gathering and counting amounts of data. The students have been displaying it as a pictograph, bar graph or tally chart. The first grade standard states that your child must be able to organize, represent and interpret data with up to 3 categories AND ask/answer questions about the data in each category. The 1st graders have really enjoyed creating their own ideas on gathering data and have had a fun time asking classmates and their teachers! Mrs. Bloomfield and I hope to assess the 1st graders on graphing this week!
